Florence A. “Floss” Alles died January 4, 2018 at the Ann’s Choice Retirement Community, Warminster, Pennsylvania, following a lengthy illness.
She was born December 28, 1934 in Philadelphia to James and Agnes McHugh, and graduated from Saint Hubert Catholic High School for Girls. While a student, she met Joseph J. Alles, who attended a nearby school. They wed in 1956.
Following their marriage, the couple raised a large family, first in Roslyn, Pennsylvania, then for many years in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.
Floss’s professional calling was as a nurse. She described her graduation from Fitzgerald Mercy School of Nursing and receipt of her RN pin as the proudest days of her life. This calling and her caring nature led her to care for patients in several locations, and eventually she was campus nurse for Prudential Insurance in Fort Washington and Horsham, where she advanced into administration. Upon retirement, she continued to care for members of her communities, working with the South Jersey Cancer Fund, and helping seniors during her retirement in Brigantine, New Jersey. She loved the opportunity to help her fellow residents as long as her health allowed.
In addition to her husband of almost 62 years, Floss is survived by her seven sons: Joseph, Peter, Mark, Christopher, Paul, Timothy, and Brian; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brother James, and her sisters Eileen and Jacqueline.
Florence was a devout Roman Catholic her entire life. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrate her life on Wednesday, January 10 at 11 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, 605 W. Street Road, Warminster, PA 18974. Friends may call at 10:30 a.m.
