George M. Roth Jr. died October 27, 2017 from complications of pneumonia. He was 89.He was born in Manayunk to George M Roth Sr, and Anna Marie Corrigan. He was raised in Conshohocken, PA. Following graduation from St Mathew’s High School in 1946, he entered the United States Marine Corps. After leaving USMC, he met and married Margaret McKay. Together they raised seven children in Warrington: Catharine Riter (Michael), George III, Anna Marie Packer, Margaret Stipa (Mark), Mary Roth Lee, Martha Jane Danchak (Brian), and Gregory Roth (Christine). He has 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He lived in Conshohocken, PA; Baltimore, MD; Warrington, PA; Lady Lake, FL; and Warminster, PA.
George’s career path was merchandise distribution and logistics management. Through the years, he was employed by TV Guide, McCormick’s Spices, Revlon, and Franklin Mint. He also had his own consulting firm for transportation and distribution management and a mail pre-sort business. He was part of many innovative new processes and technologies in the distribution industry. He was proud of his accomplishments spearheading “new and better ways to ship a company’s goods.” He worked with some of the first bar codes and scanners used to direct railroad cars, and then later products.
He was in constant motion and loved his projects around the house and yard. Following retirement and the death of his wife, George traveled the United States extensively by trailer, and took several excursions to Europe. He was very proud of his explorations.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margie McKay, sisters Helen Catherine Bello and Rosemary Burt, and daughter Cathy.
There will be a funeral Mass at St. Matthew’s Church in Conshohocken on Friday, Nov. 3rd, at 10 a.m. Friends will be received after 9 a.m. until time of Mass in the church. Interment of ashes will follow in St. Mathew’s Cemetery. In leiu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Catholic Charities or the non-profit of your choice.
