James M. Battin, “pioneer” resident of Ann’s Choice, Warminster PA, died July 29th, 2018. He was born in Jamaica Estates, Queens, NY in 1926. He is the son of Jean Raeburn Boyd [Scotland] and Bevier Hasbrouck Slate Battin. He is the grandson of Harriet Strong and Joseph M. Battin of Elizabeth, NJ. [renowned engineer/inventor of the Coal Breaker (1800s)]. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Mary Lou McGroarty. Survived by 6 sons, Mark(Jasna), Glenn, Christopher(Yumi), Michael, Andrew(Katy),
and Matthew(Teresa), eleven grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
He was a WW2 Army veteran assigned to the Army Specialized Training Program and attached to 1st Army Hq. Company. He spent 45 years in the pharmaceutical industry, employed by Schering Corp, then McNeil(J&J), and PCI. He graduated from Port Richmond HS and Wagner College and earned an MBA from Rutgers Univ. He earned Eagle Scout rank and later had Scout Master roles for Troop 172 in Westfield, NJ. For 16 years he was an active volunteer at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia including Dressage at Devon. He was also a Eucharistic Minister at Nativity of Our Lord Church.
